Get advice based on your status
The rights of a former owner and a tenant can differ. Do not assume that a notice period described for tenants applies to a former homeowner. Show the notices and sale documents to a California attorney or court self-help service promptly.
Take notices and court papers seriously
Read every deadline and keep copies. A completed sale and the process for obtaining possession are related but distinct issues. Do not rely on an informal conversation as an extension of a court or notice deadline.
Ask about any proposed occupancy agreement
If the new owner offers additional time or a move-out agreement, get the terms in writing and seek advice before signing. Clarify dates, money, property condition, and what happens if either party cannot perform.
Plan the practical next steps
Gather important records and belongings, review housing options, and contact local assistance resources if needed. Keep communicating through reliable channels and document any agreements.
Understand the limits of a home buyer’s role
Once ownership has transferred through foreclosure, the former owner generally cannot simply sell that same property to another buyer. Bay Cash Homes cannot promise to reverse a completed foreclosure or grant a right to stay. Use the California Courts resources for guidance on the process and where to seek help.
